But as I played I became so familiar with the callouts that I didn’t even need to look at the top of the screen to see the notes. Aside from the obvious ones like left and right directions of course. At first, it was confusing figuring out what their callouts meant. Being that there’s no map like in other racing games, you’re really depending on your co-driver to deliver the best directions possible. It seemed interesting to me that racers have a co-drivers in the car with them calling out pace notes. My knowledge of what rallying is was scarce before my time with the game. If you mess up in this game, you might as well start the event over. It isn’t a Need For Speed game in the fact that if you miss a turn you can still come back. The game is really harsh from the beginning with no signs of letting up on you. Crashing and bashing into obstacles won’t just damage the cosmetic aspects of your racer but the internals necessary to getting through each course and avoiding a DNF (did not finish). Cars are weighty to give you some challenge in perfecting your control over each vehicle you get behind the wheel of. This is a title that has been meticulously created to bring you a true rally simulation. ![]() WRC 9 is a racing sim with an extraordinary amount of depth within it. It does a fantastic job of having help options on the screen at all times too. Like I said above, I wasn’t much a fan of the series due to my rough time with the 6th entry’s lack of help given to the player. I appreciated this being implemented in the game from the start. From there, you’re able to adjust the difficulty and begin your racing career. Despite the Switch’s biggest advantage being the “on the go” aspect, I think the smaller text on the screen will outshine the portability. The game starts by having you run a couple of tests to see how you handle the game’s mechanics. In conclusion, WRC 9 might be the best thing on Switch when it comes to a technical racing game, but it should be played mostly on TV. WRC 9 really does do the trick for bringing your games on the go, but it will always come with the caveat that the text will be small. Those are the hard facts and speaking frankly, WRC 9 is also great proof that technical driving games can exist on the platform, but for the love of … Do not play it on the Switch Lite…. Mario Kart is by no means a technical driving game and thus cometh WRC 9 to mind.Īnd even when we think technically aimed driving games (or simulators), we are always going to be looking at mostly Xbox and PlayStation or PC. Take control of all official drivers and cars in 3 WRC categories with improved physics for even greater realism, redesigned environments and all-new pace notes for total immersion. It is the most in-depth rally game on the market: 3 new rallies (Kenya, Japan, New Zealand), over 15 classic cars and 100 special stages to tackle!
